FAQs

Is this real?

yes

is this a joke/metaphor/Larger social commentary?

as much as life is a joke/no/no

why?

lantern flies are a legitimate threat to our local ecology. i like fruit trees. and maybe something about how a society that eschews violence without seeking peace will inevitably find an outlet and personally I would rather die by boot than slow death on extra-large fly paper.

will this actually do any good?

it absolutely can’t hurt as long as you’re only hurting lanternflies. if you’re a local ecologist/educator type who wants to get in touch about supplementary ways of getting involved for the squeamish or those who are otherwise unable to squash hmu.

What is the golden boot?

a boot that i have painted gold in honor of the most traditional lanternfly squashing equipment. the highest award in the land.

The golden (boot) rule

please squish respectfully. if you wouldn’t be there normally, don’t squish there. even for our noble cause the ends do not justify the means.

if you are more of a nuisance than the lanternflies, you get the regular boot.

Egg masses

The gold standard. Get more all at once - peak season late fall - early spring. More info correct removal and disposal here.

Nymphs

If you’ve seen these small spotted bugs and thought, “how interesting”, you have been bamboozled. Jumps farther than they have any right to.

Makes the biggest crunch. Some say the best one.

Stamp. Squish. Stop.
